INAUGURAL ‘DESIGN SAUSALITO HOLIDAY EDITION’ LAUNCHES: NOVEMBER 15-17, 2024
Top Makers and Artists Lead Talks, Demonstrations & Tours Highlighting A Celebration of Design, Fashion, Textiles and Art, in the Heart of Sausalito
From the organizers of the annual San Francisco Design Week, nonprofit organization Design Bay Area, the debut of DESIGN SAUSALITO marks the first annual design celebration of leading makers, artists, and creative practitioners based in the Sausalito region of northern California. The best of creativity in Sausalito will be explored by the region’s top artists and craftspeople, who will lead a three-day program of talks and tours of private studios and workshops in Sausalito.
The three-day celebration showcases the intersection of ideas, design and entrepreneurism that promotes the Bay Area as the birthplace of the future with a special focus on the Sausalito region for the holidays with a focus on design, fashion, textiles and art.
Sausalito, California, has long been a sanctuary for artists, thinkers, and visionaries, with a rich history that dates back to the mid-20th century. Its unique waterfront setting and bohemian spirit attracted a creative vanguard, including luminaries like Maya Angelou, Gordon Onslow Ford, Jean Varda, Edith Heath, and Ruth Asawa. These artists were drawn not only by the natural beauty of the area but by its open, experimental energy—one that encouraged artistic risk-taking and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Their presence transformed Sausalito into a cultural hub where art, design, and craftsmanship flourished in tandem with a vibrant, free-spirited community. This enduring legacy continues to influence the town today, making Sausalito a place where the artistic past and present coexist in a dynamic dialogue.
