This event is a Community Event promoted as a part of the Design Bay Area Year of Design celebration.

Joseph Becker is the Curator of Architecture and Design at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, where his work explores the intersections of architecture, design, art, and visual culture. Becker will discuss recent curatorial projects that together outline his philosophy for exhibition-making as a form of spatial practice to foster inspiration and curiosity. His process explores the productive intersection of object story-telling and exhibition design to create atmospheric and immersive presentations without sacrificing narrative and context.

For Futurespaces, we will also take a deeper dive into Art of Noise, an exhibition that presents 100 years of design and music. First shown in 2024 at SFMOMA and now on view at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York, Art of Noise tracks the evolution of the tools and devices that we’ve used to listen to music, as well as the graphics and visual artifacts that shape our shared listening experiences.
